The Performers:

Singer-songwriters Justin Lansing and Joe Mailander have been friends since age three and tour children’s venues with performances reminiscent of the Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger tradition. Three years ago, Justin and Joe co-founded a non profit music organization called The Medicinal Strings that promotes the arts within underserved communities as a bluegrass band. They have traveled the country for three summers playing folk concerts and leading educational workshops for all ages. Justin and Joe also served as teacher’s aides and camp counselors throughout their high school and college years.

The Okee Dokee Brothers teach to the Music National Standards, have extensive theater and choir experience and are fluent in Spanish. The Okee Dokee Brothers is a developing sub-organization of The Medicinal Strings.

Why host the Okee Dokee Brothers?

Studies prove that children learn more from interactive performances

than reading or classroom lectures. These are professional

performers with experience in youth and education.

Their original and traditional songs promote family values

while preserving cultural history through an

unforgettable performance.

Text Box: The Okee Dokee Brothers can also provide their services in Spanish and are non-denomination/partisan.

1. Creative expression:

The Okee Dokee Brothers encourage audience

participation during songs, skits, song writing workshops,

dances, jokes, storytelling, poetry readings, and basic

juggling lessons.

2. Enjoyable education:

During the workshop, children and adults can learn about

the history of folk music and hear the stories of our

country’s roots musicians.  The audience can also participate

in games dealing with genre differentiation, instrument

classification and the geographic origins of varying music

styles.

3. Communal growth:

The mission of the Okee Dokee Brothers focuses on

the interaction of children with parents, teachers, librarians

and principals in a fun, comfortable and educational atmosphere.

We believe children can teach adults just as much as adults can

teach children.  This mutual transformation is a necessary process

that can enrich the core values of openness, self-expression and creativity in our families and society at large for years to come.

Audience: Children ages 0-15 at Schools, Libraries, Day Care Centers, Bookstores, Summer Camps, Camp Fires, Children’s Hospitals, Children’s Museums, etc…
